Debian GNU/Linux is one of the most complete distributions availible. It supports 4 platforms in version 2.1: Intel x86, SPARC, DEC/Compaq Alpha, and Motorola 680x0 (Macs, Amiga, Atari). It comes with over 2250 packages, ranging from base utilities to GNOME to specialty applications. One of Debian's strong points is its package manager, which you can use to somewhat easily install lots of packages from many locations.
