About the Linux Distribution List
The Linux Distribution List is a list of Linux distributions
maintained by mrg. It tries to be the
most complete list of Linux distributions availible. Currently, it lists
68 distributions, ranging to full-blown distributions (such as Red Hat Linux) to single-disk
distributions, to specialty distributions for embedding purposes.
How the site is maintained. The first layout (can be seen here) was/is done by hand using joe, a text
editor. The new layout (you're looking at it) is automagically generated by
a set of perl scripts included in distrolist 0.2, except
where I have to create pages largely by hand. (These include the todo,
submit, about, and links pages.) This layout borrows a lot from freshmeat.
How to get to the LDL. The main site can be found by going to http://ldl.cjb.net. If you prefer the
old-style big-list-of-links site, go to http://ldlold.cjb.net. Both URLs point to
whereever I have the site hosted at the time. (cjb.net doesn't host web
sites, they provide redirection and e-mail.) Currently, the site is hosted
at 3 places: http://sdf.lonestar.org/~jkach
(where ldl.cjb.net and ldlold.cjb.net point to), provided by sdf.lonestar.org; http://ldl.8m.com (no CGI, so no search
engine), provided by Free Servers; and http://ldl.webprovider.com (broken
CGI, I think), provided by Webprovider.
Adding to the List. Additions and updates to the list are welcomed and
encouraged. Go to the Submit link at the top of the page to submit a distro.
Each addition or update is overviewed by a team of trained spider monkies
before it's added to the list. If you're submitting a new distribution,
please go through the list and make sure it's not already here. If you're
submitting an update, go through the list and make sure I haven't gotten it
already. Each time I add new info to the site, I upload the changed/added
pages to each server right after each other, in the order listed above.
Also, please remember to include a handle and a e-mail address (you can
spam-proof if you want to) so that I can include it in the listing. (Note
that I won't mangle your e-mail adress for you, so if you want it
spam-proofed, you get to do it.)
Other info. Comments, suggestions, and questions about the site can be submitted
to mrg@hobbiton.org. This site
attempts to be HTML/4.0 compliant, but don't hold your breath. As far as I
know, no browser-specific tags are used here. The site renders fine in
Netscape Communicator 4.04 for Linux and Windows (95/9x/NT/etc), and in Lynx
2.8.2dev.21. It should also render fine in Internet Exploder, iCab, Opera,
mmm, Mosaic (might be a little shaky there, though), Amaya, Arena, or whatever else you
use. It might render OK in older browsers and/or EMacs/W3 4.0. (Don't bother
asking me to make it look right in NS 0.96 or something really old.) As for
trademarks, all trademarks and copyrights used on this site are the property
of their owners. (You should already know that, however.)
